Dippidee is well known for it's delicious cake flavors. Our store currently offers 28 different flavors on a regular basis. If you can think of a flavor, we most likely make it. Even if we have not made it in the past, will try to make it. A special flavor we have gotten a lot of requests for this week is Pistachio. Our Pistachio cupcake is amazingly delicious with a creamy pistachio filling that is just heavenly. Another unique flavor we have made in the past has been our Smore's cupcakes. These are graham cracker cupcakes filled with marshmallow cream and covered in ganache. No campfire needed!! We also make an amazing churro cupcake that is sugar and cinnamon perfection. Engagements often happen over the holiday season. What gift is better than a ring? I can't think of any. If you received a ring, congratulations! Now the the wedding planning begins. Are you unsure of what direction you want your wedding theme to go? Well here are some current cake trends that might inspire you.

Think Outside the Box - Wedding cakes are traditionally circle shaped. If you want to have a less traditional cake, a square cake is the way to go. Square cakes are more contemporary and yet can still look formal. Offset square cakes are very modern. You can also jazz up a square cake with art deco or a more elegant floral design.

A Splash of Color - Cakes have come along way from the traditional white cake. Color is what everyone wants. The brighter the cake the better. One way to incorporate color into your wedding cake is by have a statement color for the base color of frosting. If having that much color frightens you, why not try to add some color with flowers, ribbon, bows or swirls. One thing will be for sure, your cake with be the talk of the party.

Polka Dots - Polka dots come and go in fashion. Guess what, they are back! Polka dots are great because they are so versatile. You can use bright polka dots to make a bold statement. One the other hand, you can use soft colors for a more traditional look. Gold, white, or silver polka dots give the cake some texture without being too overbearing. You can also combine polka dots with other designs for a unique cake.

Frilly Vintage Cake - Vintage is super trendy right now. Anything that resembles the 50's is in style. This trend includes the ruffled cake look. This look can be done in either butter cream or fondant. This look is super elegant and is great for a variety of decorative themes.

We at Dippidee are so excited for Christmas to be here. Only a few days until this wonderful day!! That means that there are only a few days left to order your holiday dessert platters and sweet treats. The last day to place your special order is Thursday, December 22nd. You can give our store a call to place your order or come by the store to see what we have available. If you have last minute shopping, we have some great gift ideas. We have caramel popcorn, cookie mixes, holiday platters and plates, and of course our delicious tasting items in our case. We can wrap up anything with a festive bow. We will be open on Saturday December 24th from 10 am - 12 pm. You can pick up your holiday desserts any time during these two hours. We will reopen on Tuesday, December 27th.

Party Time! We have had many different cakes in the last couple of weeks. It has been fun decorating new cake designs. Here are some of the fun cakes we have made. For a vintage first birthday party, we made this rose themed smash cake and rose sugar cookies. Our next cake was a complete oppisite. It was a garbage cake. It was our first time to making a garbage cake. It was fun making a mess of the cake. The Rapunzel cake we made was a great touch for a sweet little girl's princess party. The water rafting cake was a blast to make. We also made a hunting cake that was a perfect fit for grandpa. We hope you love our cakes are much as we do it.

Sadly, the summer is almost over. The final weeks of summer have been busy for us. We have made a wide range of cakes, from first birthday smash cakes to four tier wedding cakes. Here are some photos of the unique cakes we have done recently. For a little girl who loves Eloise at the Plaza, we made her a sweet pink cake. For Andrew who was turning four and loves Cars the movie, we helped his dream come true with his cake. It was deffinatley a fun cake to make. Lastly, we made a cake and cupcakes for a vintage themed wedding. The cupcakes represent the keys of a vintage type writer. It was a very unique request, but the outcome of the deliciously sweet and beautiful. We look forward to doing more of these special cakes in the future.

End of Summer Luau

Sadly, summer will be coming to an end and school will start in a few weeks. We at Dippidee have decided to have one final bash before the end of summer. Last week we made this cake for a customer. He has a friend who is a Packers' fanatic and wanted to surprise him for his birthday. We had tons of fun making it and the cake was a hit.

This was his reply to the cake:

"Thank you so much for the beautiful cake! My friend loved it! Everyone said that it was the best cake that they had ever eaten! I flew back into town last night, and I ate a piece. It was fantastic! Thanks again for getting this cake done for me with such short notice!"

Pioneer Day Weekend

Summer Fun!! Dippidee is so excited for this fun in the sun weekend. In honor of Pioneer Day, we will be having some delcious Utah themed treats. We will have sweet sugar cookies in the shape of beehives and bees to represent our Beehive state. They are perfect for a BBQ, a Pinic, or any party. Baby Blues....or Pink?

We had the sweetest girl give us a call a few weeks ago. She had an unique request. She had just been in for her ultrasound for her very first child. She wanted us to help her find out what she was having. Her doctor had written down if she was having a boy or girl on a piece of paper. Without telling her what she was having, the doctor placed the paper in a sealed envelope. She brought the letter to us. We then dyed her cake to match what the letter stated. She was having a boy, so we dyed it blue. From the outside, no one could tell. Once they cut into the cake, they were able to celebrate the joys of their new baby boy. Your cake should be beautiful, taste amazing, and fit within your budget. Here are a few tips I have for brides and grooms to help ensure their wedding cake fits all of those criteria.
Beautiful - Take any pictures, color swatches, invitations, examples, anything you have collected to your wedding cake designer. Look at pictures of their past work, make sure it is up to your standard. Have them draw out the design of your cake so you can visualize what they are thinking. Make sure you love the final design.
Taste Amazing - The best way to ensure this is to taste samples from your wedding cake designer. At this time clarify and make sure that this will be the exact same cake that will be used in your cake. This is such an important element. You should eat your cake, your guests should eat your cake, this is the reason for having a cake. Also, by feeding the cake to your guests, you can cut back on servings of other desserts or refreshments.
Budget - The idea of a 12 tier cake towering over your wedding sounds great, but in reality the higher that cake goes up and the more detail it has, the higher the price goes up. Decide what you want your cake to represent. Your cake doesn't have to be huge. You can have a smaller cake that accentuates your wedding by adding unique details to your design. The cake will still be a huge focal point without breaking your budget.

GOAL TASTE AMAZING: Here is another wedding cake I wanted to share with you. This cake was for James and Sarah. I loved this cake because, they loved this cake so much. James and Sarah were all about having a cake that tasted amazing. This cake was layers of chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. The entire cake was covered in marzipan and then covered in a rich chocolate buttercream. James and Sarah came by to see me after their wedding. They talked about after the wedding how they had some cake left over. They took it home to their families. Next thing they knew everyone had forks out diving right into the cake. It was a race to see who could devour the most. Now that's my kind of race!

WEDDING CAKES

When you work in the wedding industry you find that January becomes all about weddings. How many of you cute girls out there got a ring for Christmas? December is one of the most popular months to get engaged, meaning January is one of the biggest months to start planning. So with weddings on the brain I am going to devote some of our January blog posts to weddings. Now I share with you a little of what Dippidee has to offer as far as wedding cakes go.

I always think it is fun to see a little bit of the back story of a cake so here are some fun things I want to share with all of you.

Alicia and Joel's Cake:
This four tier cake was simple, yet elegant. If you can see the flowers on that middle tier you will see that each is handmade and they are all unique. Each tier also had its own unique flavor. The top tier was a 4" round tier with a raspberry swirl cake with a raspberry cream filling. Most of our cakes stand 5" tall, but this next tier was 8" tall and 6" round to accommodate those unique handmade flowers. It was mad of red velvet cake and our signature cream filling. The third tier was a 10" round chocolate cake filled with our signature cream filling. The bottom tier was a12" round lemon cake filled with raspberry cream. This cake had around 125 servings and cost $550.

Jenna and Mike's Cake:
I loved, loved, loved this cake. When Jenna came to me for her cake I could see she had a lot of class and she was going to need a cake that fit her style. The thing that is so unique about this cake is all of the roses are hand piped meringue. They were so light and delicate and tasted like candy. There was also a beautiful gold shimmer to the cake that made it stand out. This cake was three tiers, a 6" round, 9" round and 12" round bottom tier. The cake had around 100 servings. The couple chose white chocolate cake for all three tiers and raspberry cream filling. This cake cost $500.

Joint Wedding Jennifer and Katie's Cakes:
This was a first for me, a double wedding. Sister's Jennifer and Katie chose to get married on the same day so I got to make them each there unique, but similar wedding cake. Both girls designed there cake to fit their unique personality. We used the same colors to tie the two cakes together. They also chose different cake flavors and fillings for each tier. Some of those combination were, margarita cake with lime cream filling, white chocolate cake with caramel cream filling, vanilla cake with vanilla mousse filling and lemon chiffon cake with a lemon cream filling. Both cakes got about 50 servings out of them and they both cost $250.

Laura and Brad's Cakes:
These cakes are special to me because I made them for my dear friends Laura and Brad. I love that Laura wanted to make Brad feel special by having a groom's cake made especially for him. Like the bride and groom these two cakes compliment one another, yet are completely different.
I have always said, groom's cakes are a great way to make your groom feel special. These two cakes got about 75 servings and cost $300.

(These last cakes I have pictured have some unique details that I love. I have put the servings and price by each one. )

2 Tier Fall Themed Cake - serves 50, cost $150

3 Tier Monogram Fresh Rose Cake -

Bride and Groom Custom Figurines -

Christmas Cakes

I wanted to share with you some of the cakes I have been working on this past week:

Whimsical Snowflake Cake
This cake was full of sparkle and glitter. It felt as if the snowflakes were fluttering all about. I really loved how beautiful this cake was.

Buche De Noel
I got to make this festive cake for one of my sweet neighbors. She chose a pumpkin jelly roll filled with a cream cheese filling. I love how this turned out. It is so fun to make a cake whose origin began in a different country.

Polar Express Cake
This cake was so fun to make. I even sat down and watched the movie so that I had a fresh perspective. As I was making the cake I kept humming the songs and craving hot chocolate.

Okay....this blog is going to be a little bite different than before. I have been wanting to do this for some time now but for one reason or another I haven't. So it's time for me to take a minute and tell all of you about the "Master Mind" behind Dippidee, Marcee Kitchen. Marcee and I have been friends for years.

Marcee grew up on a turkey farm in Ephraim Utah.
She is surrounded by 8 siblings (all starting with the letter "M").
Marcee has 3 incredibly talented children, who live in Highland with her and her husband.
The recipes and baking skills that are used at Dippidee are family secrets that she learned from her childhood with her Grandmother and Mother.
Not only does she have a passion for decorating cakes, Marcee loves high-heels, purses and movies.
Her little brother and her share the same Birthday.
She has TWO ears and ONE mouth. (She is a great listener)

I could go on and on.....Marcee is one of those people that others line up to be around! This amazing wife, mother, friend, daughter and boss has shared with us the most delicious treats. I love fall! I love the many colors on the trees, fall sports, sweaters, cozy socks and the cooler air and of course all of the wonderful treats that show up in the fall. One of my favorite fall treats is rice pudding! I love this creamy pudding like dessert. Dippidee's Rice Pudding is a family recipe that has been around for generations. Grandma Barbie

Many of you that follow my blog have heard me talk about my Grandma Barbie. She is one of my most favorite people and she is definitely a part of Dippidee. You may not know but a lot of the recipes we use come from her and her side of my family. Grandma is one of the most amazing cooks. She has taught me an abundance of things in my life, my favorite being cooking and baking. Some of my favorite memories come from sitting at her bar spinning around on the wooden chair and watching her cook. I remember her sweet crooked arthritic hands kneading dough making the most delicious bread. Or throwing flour onto the counter and rolling out the most amazing pie crusts. I can hear the sounds of grease crackling on the stove while she fried sour dough scones. Then the taste of smothering those scones with real butter and fresh raspberry jam. I have always been amazed at how she could do the most amazing things with the simplest ingredients. Recently I had the privilege of spending some time with Grandma. She is now almost 89 years old and I feel like every second with her is so precious. Grandma, thank you for passing on your love of good food to me. Thank you for teaching me your skills of turning such simple things into culinary masterpieces. Thank you for sharing your secrets with me, like every fridge should have butter and cream at all times. And thank you for making me some of the best food I have ever eaten.
