Christmas Cakes

I wanted to share with you some of the cakes I have been working on this past week:

Whimsical Snowflake Cake
This cake was full of sparkle and glitter. It felt as if the snowflakes were fluttering all about. I really loved how beautiful this cake was.

Buche De Noel
I got to make this festive cake for one of my sweet neighbors. She chose a pumpkin jelly roll filled with a cream cheese filling. I love how this turned out. It is so fun to make a cake whose origin began in a different country.

Polar Express Cake
This cake was so fun to make. I even sat down and watched the movie so that I had a fresh perspective. As I was making the cake I kept humming the songs and craving hot chocolate.

Another of my favorite local photographers is Katie Moss of Peekaboo Photography. If you are familiar with her work you already know how fun it is to look at her photography. I love scrolling through her beautiful images. She has a real talent for capturing unique moments. Katie is also a great customer of Dippidee. She is so great to refer her clients to us when they are in the need of cakes to go along with their photo shoots. This past weekend Katie asked me to create a cake for her cute little girl Mya. Mya's birthday was a "Tangled" theme party. I had just seen the movie with my girls and was so excited to create a cake for Mya. Okay....this blog is going to be a little bite different than before. I have been wanting to do this for some time now but for one reason or another I haven't. So it's time for me to take a minute and tell all of you about the "Master Mind" behind Dippidee, Marcee Kitchen. Marcee and I have been friends for years.

• Marcee grew up on a turkey farm in Ephraim Utah.
• She is surrounded by 8 siblings (all starting with the letter "M").
• Marcee has 3 incredibly talented children, who live in Highland with her and her husband.
• The recipes and baking skills that are used at Dippidee are family secrets that she learned from her childhood with her Grandmother and Mother.
• Not only does she have a passion for decorating cakes, Marcee loves high-heels, purses and movies.
• Her little brother and her share the same Birthday.
• She has TWO ears and ONE mouth. (She is a great listener)

I could go on and on.....Marcee is one of those people that others line up to be around! This amazing wife, mother, friend, daughter and boss has shared with us the most delicious treats. Creamy Rice Pudding

I love fall! I love the many colors on the trees, fall sports, sweaters, cozy socks and the cooler air and of course all of the wonderful treats that show up in the fall. One of my favorite fall treats is rice pudding! I love this creamy pudding like dessert. Dippidee's Rice Pudding is a family recipe that has been around for generations. If you ask Sue Ann, our Executive Pastry Chef, what makes our rice pudding better than others, she will tell you the secret is all the rich butter and cream that is used in it. And, we always top it off with a dash of cinnamon and sugar to give it that perfect sweetness which makes it super delightful! Grandma Barbie

Many of you that follow my blog have heard me talk about my Grandma Barbie. She is one of my most favorite people and she is definitely a part of Dippidee. You may not know but a lot of the recipes we use come from her and her side of my family. Grandma is one of the most amazing cooks. She has taught me an abundance of things in my life, my favorite being cooking and baking. Some of my favorite memories come from sitting at her bar spinning around on the wooden chair and watching her cook. I remember her sweet crooked arthritic hands kneading dough making the most delicious bread. Or throwing flour onto the counter and rolling out the most amazing pie crusts. I can hear the sounds of grease crackling on the stove while she fried sour dough scones. Then the taste of smothering those scones with real butter and fresh raspberry jam. I have always been amazed at how she could do the most amazing things with the simplest ingredients. Recently I had the privilege of spending some time with Grandma. She is now almost 89 years old and I feel like every second with her is so precious. Grandma, thank you for passing on your love of good food to me. Thank you for teaching me your skills of turning such simple things into culinary masterpieces. Thank you for sharing your secrets with me, like every fridge should have butter and cream at all times. And thank you for making me some of the best food I have ever eaten.
